As We Sailed

Burdens

My life is full of burdens

Nothing I can’t handle, nothing I can’t deal with

These shackles are heavy, linked, and made of the strongest metal

Intertwined and forged with a purpose

The river is my respite

A place of new air, I take in the crisp blue water

Let the bubbles make their way from my mouth to the sky

There goes our dreams, and with it our lives

Things left unsaid drag me further down

Exhaustion is an understatement when your limbs forget to move

Lower and lower I sink, above us the sky is no longer my favorite blue

My life floats further away

Moving with the tide

With no recollection of the past

As I sailed away

Leaving you buried underneath the sand.
